Welcome to Year 6

Important dates: week commencing 03.03.25
Monday 3rd: Read with a parent.
We are inviting parents to come into school to read with their child up until 8:50am. Please come along and enjoy a story or two with your child/children.
Thursday 6th: World Book Day.
We would like the children to come to school dressed up as a character from their favourite book.
SATs revision
As we are moving closer towards SATs week, year 6 are now doing revision sessions every week for SPaG, Reading and Writing.
Each week, the children will be set pages to complete from each of the revision booklets. We will then go through the answers at the end of the week with the children.
Please encourage your child to complete the homework to prepare them for SATs and to put them in the best possible position for SATs.
Our learning this week: week commencing 24.02.25
Maths
We focused on area and perimeter this week. The children could make quick links between calculating the area of rectangles, triangles and parallelograms.
Science
This week, year 6 studied how we see objects and the parts of the eye. The children were particularly intrigued by how the lens bends light so that the image is projected upside down on the retina.
Art
Our new art question is: Can religion be expressed through art and architecture? This week, we looked at the structural features of the religious buildings designed by Mimar Sinan. The children then practised a range of sketching techniques. We have some artists on our hands!
What's to come...
In English next week, the children will begin to study 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes. We are hoping the children really engage with the text as is it a text full of description, love and blood.
In Maths, the children will move onto calculating volume and in science the children will be investigating the shape of shadows.
In Art, the children will continue developing their sketching techniques using different tools to create depth and dimension.
